These tawny deer are mindful to ascend up forest slopes towards higher elevation meadows rather than wait it out at lower altitudes which have a thick undergrowth of sedges and bogs. The chill clime is invigorating, despite the bracing cold that penetrates a bit more deeply here where fewer trees can offer shelter from blustery winds.
